As we explore what rest actually is, we are also trying to figure out how to get more of it. The more we dig, the more gold we find! So this is the first instalment of recommendations chosen from our research, reading and our own experiments in rest.
ON THE WEB:
Always grateful for their IG posts that remind me to take a moment, even as I scroll. If you’re inspired, check out their other offerings on their website, including The Daily Rest Studio.
FOR THE READING LIST:
Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman
Ben’s favourite read of 2023 so far. Far from your typical “productivity handbook”, Burkeman encourages his reader to accept the natural limits of what we can acheive in order to enjoy what really matters.
IN THE WILD:
One of the wonders of a winter evening is the pleasure of witnessing a thousand starlings swooping and diving through the sky, moving in formation as if perfectly rehearsed. Although starling populations have been declining in recent decades, there is still the opportunity to see murmurations all over the UK. The best time to catch them is dusk during autumn and winter. Watching this magic always reminds me to take a breath and, just for a moment, to bask in the mystery of the natural world we all inhabit.
Send us your suggestions for rest reads, comforting communities and relaxation recommendations, and we’ll share the best of the bunch with the whole gang in future instalments of Rest Recs. (We’re making it a thing.)
